A Bit About South Africa!
The Christ’s Hope Ministry CareCenter is in Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa. Sitting on a large grassy plateau, Johannesburg is known as “the city of gold” because of the gold rush that led to its formation in 1886. The city’s temperatures range from the low 50s to the high 70s, but it can occasionally drop below freezing. Rain is scarce, and droughts are common.
Despite being a major urban center, Johannesburg has a high poverty rate as well as one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the world, and many children face daily challenges like finances, orphanhood, and limited access to healthcare. Homes in the city are often very small, made of brick or corrugated metal sheets, and many families struggle to secure stable housing. Sadly, homelessness is a widespread issue, with many people waiting and praying for shelter.
